Aarhus School of Architecture

Would you like to help us start up and develop Aarhus School of Architecture's new research centre, Centre for Emerging Landscapes

If you are interested in being part of a dynamic research environment building up new interdisciplinary partnerships that may together provide a basis for fundamental changes in the way we transform our landscapes, please send us your application!

In light of climate change, the Centre for Emerging Landscapes will be conducting basic and applied research with the aim of formulating new methods for the sustainable development of the urban landscapes of the future, from open landscapes to dense urban areas.

Centre for Emerging Landscapes will take a radical approach. There is a need for a much more holistic view of the creation of architecture, a view based on an awareness that everything we do is related and that the large scale cannot be separated from the small scale. A view that involves building, or perhaps rather transforming and rebuilding, with nature and its material cycles, not against them. Where we do not continue the practice of delaying problem-solving, but actually attempt to solve problems based on long-term strategies that ensure a better balance between nature and our built environments.

At Aarhus School of Architecture, we aim for ambitious research and teaching that combines the different scales of architecture - from landscapes to cities to buildings to details - with aesthetics, technologies, nature and culture. We are about to implement a new way of structuring our teaching and a new curriculum in which, precisely, the above concepts will be the backbone of the education we offer. A backbone that is also going to have an impact on the direction of our research in the coming years.

This is our reason for advertising several time-limited postdoc and research assistant positions affiliated with the Centre for Emerging Landscapes.

We would like to see the positions filled as soon as possible or starting from 1 November 2024.

Salaries and terms of employment will be according to the current AC collective agreement, with the possibility of negotiating supplements according to qualifications.

The Positions

Aarhus School of Architecture is looking for candidates with a high professional level and, preferably, experience from practice or similar strong professional skills who are competent and interested in dissemination and collaboration.

At Aarhus School of Architecture, Danish is used as the first language and English as the second language. Projects are carried out in close collaboration with Aarhus Municipality and other, mainly Danish, stakeholders, which means Danish is used for reporting, workshops, and field studies.

 What We Can Offer You

At Aarhus School of Architecture, we offer you a creative and innovative research and teaching environment. You will be co-responsible for the further development of the school's research and the teaching associated with it.

We recently moved into Denmark's first new-built school of architecture located in the heart of Aarhus; a building with greatly expanded workshop facilities that contribute to strengthening our practice-oriented teaching and our potential for experimenting with materials and building technical solutions through our research. See the new facilities.

The new building has made the school a more integrated part of the city and the surrounding area; an area which is now a laboratory for creativity and social commitment. A laboratory where tomorrow's architecture is created in collaboration with architecture firms and other stakeholders of the building industry, entrepreneurs, the municipality, the citizens of Aarhus, and partners we cooperate with from all over the world.

As an employee of Aarhus School of Architecture, you will be involved in many contexts with your colleagues in both large and small groups. We believe that we create the best framework for an attractive and vibrant workplace through mutual recognition and by focusing on cooperation.
